I have added to some of my logo descriptions...
The use of bold colours makes it eye catching which also makes it striking and unforgettable. As well as this, the block capital of the M used in the MTV logo suggests a professional and adult like channel. However the TV written in a pen like font depicts it to be a more urban and teenage like channel. The way it has been illustrated, as though the ‘TV’ sign has just been thrown on creates a care free, wild theme. This contrast is good because it signifies that the channel is aimed at a variety of people and the target audience is open. I too will try to use this technique in my logo. Also the abbreviation of music to ‘M’ makes the viewer curious as to what it stands for making them intrigued and interested.
The features
in this logo make it very effective and give the viewer an immediate
understanding of what kind of show it is. The use of the bold, block capitals
shows that the programme is loud, ‘in your face’ and screaming out at you. The
red blood trickling down over the metallic silver of the font indicates a gory,
violent and horror filled show. The colours used in the background are
extremely effective as it creates atmosphere and a tense vibe. The luminous
moonlight against the silhouette of the trees creates imagery of horror as
trees are often associated with a forest-fear. This is further enhanced by the
way children often view trees at night. They fear it due to the odd shadows
they create at night and so trees have become a symbolism for nightmares.
Here similar to Grim, the forest has been used to portray an air of fear and horror as well as mystery and suspense. The dark colours used in the background reflect the darkness of the show and also suggests that some of it may be set in a forest. This also links to the word ‘wolf’ as wolves are known to be from the forest. The beam of light in the background portrays that something may be coming and the fact that it’s not shown creates a sense of fear. The font used is all in capital letters and the light colour contrasts against the darkness of the back. This stands out and also gives the impression
Logos-Production company’s
I have
looked at a variety of popular and well known logos to gain an understanding of
what would look best on my own.
The BBC logo is a
very professional looking logo. This is shown by the use of block capitals and
also the colour choice. The black and white suggests it is aimed at an older
audience and the plain simple font used shows a classic professional look. The
contrast of the colours also makes it jump out at you. The abbreviation ‘BBC’
stands for ‘British Broadcasting Corporation’ and the fact that it’s been put
so short and simply makes it more memorable for the viewer. The capitalisation
of the letters sends out a message that they’re important and it’s also
incredibly eye catching. I may be using
this style for my logo as it could suit my design brief as I was thinking of
doing if not a horror/comedy then a thriller or drama.
The E4 logo
differs from the BBC one as there is a lot more character in it. The use of a
bright colour symbolizes a fun, more charismatic channel. The house colours of
purple and white makes this logo memorable as whenever you see this sign, the
first thing that jumps out is the colour. Also as there is a logo fallen on the
floor this shows it is a lot less professional and more laid back, this is
something I will be looking to develop into my own logo. As well as this the E
within the 4 is a very clever way of putting together the logo. The logo is
short and simple making it easier for people to remember as well. I have
researched this logo as my brief is asking me to look for a target audience
similar to ones from this channel.
The font used in this logo is something
I wish to develop and implement into my own logo. This is because it is a fun
font which signifies that the audience is a younger generation. It’s also in
upper case font except for the ‘I’ and ‘y’ which adds to the immature, childish
look. The audience I will be aiming at
is about 15-25. This means that although I need to make my font fun I can’t
make it as childish as this. The colours used here are blue and black, however
the outline never tends to stay the same colour so it won’t always be blue. The
range of different colours shows vibrancy which will appeal to children and
reflects the kind of programmes shown. This research has shown that using two
colours is increasingly popular with well-known logos.

The Warner Brothers logo is glorified looking logo. This is
shown by the use of gold and the fact that it is in the shape of a shield. This
creates the effect that WB is invincible, majestic and incredibly important as
it’s one of the top production companies. The use of capital letters makes the
logo look more professional. As well as this, the sharp pointiness of the logo
creates an edgy vibe giving the effect that the company is skilled and
undefeatable. Moreover, the use of the blue sky in the background makes the
company appear serene. Also the fact that it is so high up in the sky suggests
that nothing can reach or compare to it. The logo consists of serifs giving an
overall more professional and classy look. Lastly, the banner-like text over the
logo is like the ‘cherry on the top’ finishing off the logo.
Logos-TV
shows
Because no
shows on E4 are similar to what I intend to do for my product, I have decided
to do some research on shows which are not on E4 and implement some of the
ideas and techniques into what I am going to do.
